Where Our Lives Are Reduced

Now and then, I observe friends and acquaintances participating in a reduction of their lives, a blunting of their humanity.

So many of us spend a lifetime pleasing others and trying to say the "right" thing. In many cases, these two missions are associated with income. If I tell this person what I think of them, they mightn't employ me. If I tell this person how I really feel, they may not do me a favor in the future.

What a bunch of fuckin shit.

The great Marquis de Sade learnt the price of Truth

When you reduce youreself to verbal grovelling, you give up your individuality, your humanity, and your sense of self. When you put financial favors in front of the truth, you begin a process of intellectual retreat.

Moreso, the favors you think you will receive by kowtowing and pleasing others are unlikely to follow. What a garbage human being hates even more than being challenged is being faked out by the likes of a kowtowing butt-kisser.

There's no denying that incomes can be forsaken and associations can be shattered by truth. This happens all the time. The majority of human beings are unable to trade in truth as they lack the maturity needed to confront its consequences, so they construct castles of delusion for these weakest of butt-kissing lemmings, and these masters of straw domains prosper on the backs of these subsidized drones.

Unfortunately, we now live in a political age where an expression of brutal honesty must be followed by a televised apology to the offended subjects of that truth.  As a result, the active aspect of that truth is pushed back into a recess where it will fester, harden, and scar the collective consciousness.

Saying the "right" thing is saying what you truly feel.

The wrong thing is to express an opinion with the purpose of pleasing another with that opinion.

If you're doing that for the majority of your life, you're not living, you're participating in a global reduction of your humanity.

You're also conceding that you're a piece of shit whose individuality is meaningless and whose measuring stick for all that matters is the dollar. You've become exactly what you hate.

Congratulations!

  1. This was blunt and right on point!

There's all sorts of cognitive dissonance that goes on so that people can earn money... "If I wasn't doing this job, someone else would, so what does it hurt?" ... "I'm just trying to feed my family"...

We really have rationalized ourselves right out of our humanity...

    Thanks for this one!

  3. I admire your writing skill. It's really an inspiration for me. What you said in here is true. I, for one, admits that impressing others with my opinion makes me happy but after reading this, you illuminated me that what I'm consistently doing is wrong -- that my life would be a piece of trash.

Thank you for this wonderful read.

Phantom, you just summed-up my entire sad, pathetic, desperate, frightened, lonely little life ! ! !.

Phantom, why have you replaced your profile picture with an image of someone who isn`t you ?.

Phantom, i`m not sure if this pertains specifically to the point you were making in this post but it would still be interesting to hear your opinion with regards to what i`m about to say. I get the genuine impression that "beggers" have much more respect for people who dont give them money than they do for people who do give them money, in fact i think they laugh contemptuously at people who are idiotic enough to give them money ! ! !, more evidence perhaps of the bizarre "back-to-front" "hell-on-earth" that we`ve unfortunately created for ourselves.

  7. KatyDid -- Thanks for your comment. Yes, rationalized ourselves right out of existence. I don't know why exactly it bothers me to see people doing it, but it's probably because we, as a race, are one, and its kinda horrible to see a fellow human degrading him- or herself.

Jax -- Thanks, Jax. I'm not surprised that Fred is creating some unease. He was always very good at that.

HOKAGE -- we're all guilty of it. It's so important to value ourselves without comparing ourselves. Uniqueness emerges when we stop comparing. This is why very young children demonstrate incredibly unique qualities. Unfortunately, many of these are "educated" and socialized out of them. There is no evidence that this is a good thing. On the contrary...

  8. Drachma -- you may have a point. The homeless are simply another class of people with the attendant rules and prejudices of every class. It's entirely conceivable that some of them laugh contemptuously. I say "some" because one profile does not fit all.

  9. Hmm, I'd love to know the backstory to THIS post. :)

In any case, I couldn't agree more. It's not an accident that after working at Disney, I haven't had a fulltime job in 16 years. Sometimes a person comes to his senses, though you DO have to pay for it. (Can I claim a small badge of honor because I was politically forced out? )

    Well done, Mark.

  10. I don't think you can escape any of this unless you plan on becoming a hermit. Helps to be realistic about it--manipulating people is a very valuable skill, although if you are not self-aware I suppose your disingenuous words would just make you another miserable hayseed. Being a soulless kiss-ass, otoh, doesn't seem to accomplish much of anything.

  12. Anon -- It's always personal. It hurts to see the slow demise of humanity all around me.

Phantom, the slow demise of hu-girl-ity that you can see all around you is derived wholly and completely from the fact that we are living through "THE TIME OF SEXUAL REPRESSION", sexual repression is an appalling thing (like communism and religion), it destroys people and nations, only when all the sexual repression is finally edited from our society will all the pain and suffering be brought to a thankful and merciful end.
