Starry Eyes

The best edition of Dennis Widmyer's STARRY EYES is the 3-disk German version from Turbine. It includes a BluRay, a DVD, and a CD of the score by Jonathan Snipes.

As a big fan of electronic music, I'm encouraged by a raft of recent electronic scores for horror flicks such as MANIAC, THE GUEST, and IT FOLLOWS.

I liked STARRY EYES immediately, and enjoyed its set-up, and the surprisingly brutal route it took.

The score is a beautiful work, and articulates the film's themes of lost dreams, desperation, loss of innocence, and the death of naivety.

The transformative nature of the climax is deftly communicated via the score.

This German edition is the only one to get.

  1. Big fan of the same synth scores you mention for THE GUEST, IT FOLLOWS and MANIAC. I liked STARRY EYES a lot too, forgotten the score though, I'll have to give it a listen. Other good recent scores UNDER THE SKIN and just recently I've been getting into Cat's Eyes dreamy score for THE DUKE OF BURGUNDY. Always nice to see a post pop up here.

  2. Aylmer -- Starry Eyes is a truly mazing score.

Funny you should mention DUKE OF BURGANDY. I've been listening to it constantly -- especially that title song over the 60's-style credit sequence. It's sublime.

Great to hear from you. I intend to get back to posting more starting this week.
