I have often wondered about the trend of having two victims in a story. I used to think it was to set up a sort of morality play where two different fates happen depending on the behaviors of the victims. Now that I am older and much more cynical, I think there are two girls just so that the victims will have someone to talk to about their plight.

ReplyDeleteI think it's also a case of marketing -- two of anything is always better than one.
The 'Prison Camp Books' series is quite a large series and seemed to edge towards increasingly more controversial and "offensive" material.
